Public Adjuster Services Across California
You pay the premiums — but the adjuster your insurer sends works for the insurer. When wildfire, earthquake, water or storm damage hits your California home or building, Acuity Adjusters works the claim for you, in 198 cities across Southern California.

Acuity Adjusters represents California property owners in insurance claims — not the insurance company. When a wildfire, an earthquake, a burst supply line or a winter storm damages your home or building, the adjuster your insurer sends out is paid by your insurer. We work the other side of that table: documenting the loss, pricing the repairs at real California rebuild costs, and negotiating the settlement on your behalf.
Our California work covers Southern California, from the South Bay and the San Gabriel Valley out through Orange County, the Inland Empire, the Victor Valley and the Morongo Basin. Every city we cover has its own page further down this list, with the damage patterns and claim issues that actually come up in that area.
If your insurer has already put a number in front of you and it won’t cover what the rebuild really costs, that is the moment to get a second opinion. Call (818) 334-2555 for a free look at your policy and your claim.
What Our California Public Adjusters Handle
Every California claim we take runs through the same four service lines we handle across the firm. Each one has its own page explaining how we document, price and argue that type of loss:
- Water Damage Claims — pipe bursts, slab leaks, appliance failures and the hidden moisture behind them.
- Fire Damage Claims — structure burn, heat damage, and the smoke and soot that travel far past the burn line.
- Storm Damage Claims — wind, rain intrusion, roof failure and debris impact.
- Vandalism and Theft Claims — break-in damage, stripped copper, graffiti and forced-entry repairs.
California Claim Types We See Most
Wildfire and Smoke Damage
California wildfire claims rarely stop at what burned. Smoke and soot push into attics, wall cavities and HVAC systems in houses that never caught fire, and insurers routinely write those losses as a cleaning job rather than a remediation job. We document the contamination properly — including contents, air handling and the parts of the structure that need replacement rather than wiping down.
Earthquake Damage
Earthquake coverage in California is usually a separate policy with its own deductible, often calculated as a percentage of the dwelling limit rather than a flat dollar figure. That structure means the fight is normally about scope: foundation cracking, chimney separation, soft-story movement and cripple-wall damage that a fast walkthrough will miss. We bring in the documentation needed to get those items into the estimate.
Water and Pipe Failure
Water is the most common loss we handle in California, and the most commonly underpaid. Slab leaks under post-tension foundations, failed angle stops and second-storey supply lines all cause damage that spreads well beyond the visible stain. Insurers frequently approve the drying and decline the repairs. We separate mitigation from restoration so both get paid.
Storm, Wind and Rain Intrusion
Atmospheric river seasons expose roofs and flashing that held up fine through years of dry weather. Claims get denied as wear and tear when the real cause was a specific storm event. Establishing that link — date, wind speed, and the failure it caused — is most of the work on these files.
Checking a Public Adjuster’s License in California
California licenses public adjusters through the California Department of Insurance. Before you sign a contract with any public adjuster — ours included — look the licensee up in the CDI license lookup and confirm the license is active and in good standing. A licensed public adjuster works for you under a written contract; the adjuster sent by your carrier does not.
How a California Claim Runs With Acuity
- Policy read. We go through your declarations page and endorsements first, so we know what is actually covered before anyone inspects anything.
- Independent inspection. We document the property ourselves — photos, moisture readings, scope notes — instead of working from the carrier’s report.
- Estimate build. The repair estimate is priced to California labour and material costs, line by line, with the items carriers commonly leave out.
- Negotiation. We present the claim to your insurer and handle the back-and-forth, including supplements when hidden damage turns up during repairs.
- Settlement. You review the final figure before anything is agreed. Our fee comes out of the settlement, so there is nothing to pay up front.

California Public Adjuster FAQs
Which California cities does Acuity Adjusters cover?
We have dedicated pages for 198 communities across Southern California, spanning Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Bernardino County, the Antelope and Victor Valleys, the San Bernardino Mountains and the Morongo Basin. The regional list above links every one of them. If your city isn’t on it, call us anyway — the list reflects the pages we have written, not the limit of where we work.
Can a public adjuster help with a wildfire smoke damage claim in California?
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons California owners call us. Smoke and soot claims are frequently settled as surface cleaning when the actual remediation involves contents, ductwork, insulation and sometimes drywall replacement. A public adjuster documents the contamination to a standard the carrier has to answer.
Does Acuity Adjusters handle earthquake claims in California?
We do. Earthquake cover in California is usually written as a separate policy with a percentage deductible, which makes the scope of damage the deciding factor in whether you recover anything at all. We document foundation, chimney and cripple-wall damage that short inspections tend to pass over.
How do I verify a public adjuster’s licence in California?
Use the California Department of Insurance licence lookup and search the individual or firm name. Confirm the licence is active before you sign anything. This applies to every public adjuster you speak with, including us — a legitimate adjuster will expect you to check.
What happens if my California insurer has already made an offer?
An offer is a starting position, not a final word, and accepting one can limit what you are able to recover later. Bring us the offer and the policy before you sign. We will tell you whether the number is reasonable for your loss — and if it is, we will say so.
What does a public adjuster cost in California, and when do I pay?
Our fee is a percentage of the settlement we recover, agreed in writing before we start, and it comes out of the claim proceeds rather than your pocket up front. There is no charge for the initial review of your policy and your loss.
